What Is a Dental Bridge?
Learn about the option of restoring your smile with a custom-made dental bridge from Dr. Amelia Aristodemo in the following video.
A dental bridge is a dental restoration designed to replace one or more missing teeth. It consists of prosthetic teeth, called pontics, that are anchored to the adjacent natural teeth or dental implants. Bridges are custom-made by dental laboratories to fit seamlessly into your smile and restore chewing function, improve appearance, and promote oral health.
The process of getting a dental bridge typically involves two visits to the dentist’s office. During the first visit, the natural teeth adjacent to the gap are prepared by removing a small amount of enamel to make room for the bridge. Impressions of the prepared teeth and the surrounding area are then taken to create a precise mold for the bridge.
At the second visit, the completed bridge is checked for fit and appearance before being permanently cemented in place over the prepared teeth or implants. Once in place, the bridge becomes a fixed restoration and does not need to be removed for cleaning or maintenance.
