What is a Dental Veneer?

The Veneer Process
To begin the veneer process, we must first make sure you are a good candidate. As veneers only cover the surface of your smile, we have to address any underlying issues before proceeding. Problems like gum disease or decay will only worsen underneath your veneer, so we must treat them promptly.
If you are eligible for veneers, we’ll start by preparing your teeth. Using a local numbing agent to keep you comfortable throughout the procedure, we will gently scrape off the surface layer of your front-facing enamel. This preparation is essential for the veneer process, as we want your thin layer of ceramic or porcelain to blend seamlessly in with the rest of your smile. By removing a small portion of damaged enamel, we can replace it with a veneer to make your tooth appear natural!
After the preparation is complete, we’ll take impressions of your smile and send them to a dental lab. There, technicians will craft your veneers, custom-fitting them to the exact shape, size, and color you want. However, this process takes a few weeks. In the meantime, we provide a set of temporary veneers that you wear to protect your teeth. While you wait, you can make changes to your temporary veneers that we’ll replicate in your final set.
Once your final veneers arrive, you’ll try them on! If you love them, we will cement your veneers in place to provide you with a beautiful new smile. If you want to make changes, we can either do them in-house or send them back to the lab for alterations.
In just a few weeks, you can revamp your smile so your teeth look as good as new!
The Cost of Dental Veneer Treatment
While it’s not true that only Hollywood stars can afford veneers, the price does differ. The cost of your veneer treatment largely depends on three factors.
- Additional procedures: Treatments like a root canal or filling may be necessary before you can receive veneers. If you need any additional procedures before being eligible for veneers, that may add to your cost.
- Veneer material: The material we make your veneers out of also affects the cost of treatment. For example, ceramic veneers are generally more expensive than composite veneers, as ceramic is a stronger material.
- The number of veneers: The amount of teeth you want to perfect is one of the biggest price determiners. One veneer to cover up an imperfect tooth will be much less expensive than covering all teeth that show when you smile (about 10-12).
