How Is Gum Disease Treated?
In this video, Dr. Amelia Aristodemo explains the different methods of gum disease treatment, such as deep cleaning and laser therapy.
Typically, the treatment for gum disease involves a combination of different approaches. One common treatment is a deep cleaning procedure, also known as scaling and root planing. During this procedure, we may need to numb the area to effectively clean below the gumline, removing calculus (tartar) and plaque buildup. Additionally, we may provide you with an antibacterial rinse to help reduce the bacterial load in your gums. In some cases, we may also utilize laser therapy to target and reduce bacteria in the gum tissue.
However, in more advanced cases where deep cleaning and other non-surgical methods are unsuccessful, surgical intervention may be necessary. This is typically considered a last resort and is reserved for cases where the gum disease has progressed significantly.
